Editorial Review:From the Manufacturer:The followup to Blackheart Engineering's Little Giant 5, the Killer Ant is the first attainable, boutique quality fractional tube amp. Featuring Class A, Single Ended circuitry, it delivers the complete, classic, touch responsive tube tone you need but at more manageable volumes for apartment dwellers and recording sessions.
Designed on a beer stained cocktail napkin, prototyped, built and tested in a one car garage in Austin, TX, and engineered to the same strict standards as the Little Giant 5, this "little head" delivers the tones, the smells and the attitude you want when sonic bliss is everything and volume needs to be kept at bay. The Killer Ant embraces 100% classic all tube circuitry but, instead of a high power tube output section, it boasts a clever, all tube power block pumping out a mere fraction of 1W. What you get is arena rock tone at bedroom levels. No more angry neighbors, whining wives or girlfriends (or both...just sayin').
Like its big bro, it features completely overbuilt component specs, from 1W resistors in the signal path to double sided PCB with 2 oz traces. Even its diminutive cabinet, just over palm sized, is built to take a beating with 15 ply (18mm) void-free wood covered expertly in durable black tolex. Final touches include distinctive white piping accents and a salt & pepper cloth covered front baffle. 4, 8 and 16-ohm extension speaker jacks allow you to hook the Ant into virtually any cab you like, including a 4 X 12. However, its counterpart, the Killer Cab, is designed to be its perfect soul mate.

Awesome amp. I loaded it with JJ tubes - an excellent upgrade. I run it through a weber 12 inch speaker. Great tube distortion at a nice low volume. You will not find a better low wattage amp for this price. I've compared it to a bitmo modded epiphone valve junior head and the blackheart 5 watt head. Neither amp compares in tone. Add a electroharmonix reverb pedal and its pure tone heaven

I was unsure about the Killer Ant, but it was affordable ($140) for a low watt class A tube head. Well, I bought it not even having a speaker cabinet for it. I am currently plugging in the speaker on my Fender SCXD which I also love. Anyway, the Killer Ant has great tone and just loud enough for home playing, just the right amount of tube breakup. I have been using it with a Tele and love it, but the extra suprise I found is that when I plug in my Texan(acoustic) with a Baggs M1A pickup, I am loving ...

The Blackheart BH1H Killer Ant Guitar Amp head is a beautiful tube amp with great tube sound. I matched it up with the Blackheart BH 110 Killer Cab Guitar Amp Cab, 1 x 10 and when I plug my Les Paul into it......Whoa!!! Tone and presence like never before and I don't have to deal with neighbors calling the police because it does all this at a reasonable volume for home or any intimate setting.
Only down side is that this little guy doesn't have much in the way of controls --on/off and volume ...

Haven't got my hands on this little jewel yet, but if you check out Youtube there's some demos of Tom "Oldskool Texas" Watterson using the amp at Blackheart's HQ in Austin,TX.
